


BTEC Higher National Certificate (HNC) in General Engineering
Overview
Due to COVID-19 this course will now only be offered on a distance learning basis with online tutorials, support materials and one-to-one support via Zoom.
The programme offers a chance to study independently and develop a broad range of skills such as report writing, communication and teamwork skills.
These skills and the mandatory and specialist units studied will provide you with the knowledge and expertise to work successfully as an Electrical or Mechanical Engineer.
HNC in General Engineering
Modules:
- Unit 1 Engineering Design
- Unit 2 Engineering Mathematics
- Unit 3 Engineering Science
- Unit 4 Managing a Professional Engineering Project
- Unit 8 Mechanical Principles
- Unit 9 Materials, Properties and Testing
- Unit 15 Automation, Robotics and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s)
- Unit 19 Electrical and Electronic Principles
Entry Qualifications
SETA will recruit to this programme with integrity. It will ensure applicants have the prior qualification and/or experience, considering whether this profile indicates that they have the potential to achieve the qualification. Typical entry qualifications either a:-
- National Certificate or Diploma in Engineering,
- Advanced Diploma in Engineering
- Or 2 x A level passes in relevant subject (maths and science).
An interview will be carried out prior to acceptance onto the programme to establish suitability for entry. Experience will be taken into account for mature applicants.
Course Duration
The course will run for 2 years on a distance learning basis, but you may be required to attend tutorials in the training centre periodically if required.
Course Assessment
Assessment will be by means of assignments, projects, presentations and time controlled assignments. All the above will provide evidence against the published learning outcomes and assessment criteria which will be discussed in detail by the delivery team. The HNC will be studied over two years part-time one day per week (time during the day will be required and need to be arranged with your employer).
Progression
Successful completion of the course will enable learners to progress to a Higher National Diploma or Degree in Engineering. The BTEC Higher National have been developed with career progression and recognition by professional bodies in mind. SETA is accredited by the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE).
Course Fees
The course fees are £3500 + VAT per year.
(Discounts can be negotiated for member companies and multiple enrolments.)
Other Requirements
A good internet connection and a modern laptop with Microsoft Office, built-in camera, mic and speakers will be required to undertake the HNC.
