Online Delivery

Courses are delivered via an online distance learning approach, which utilises a combination of learning material such as short videos, worksheets, e-books, guided reading, seminars and example tutorial exercises.

Online Tutor Support

Students will also be entitled to participate in live online tutor-supported seminars and one to one tutor support via video conferencing and online white-board technology. Tutors are also available via phone and email.


All students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the engineering sector through four core modules for each pathway:

1. Unit 1 Engineering Maths

2. Unit 2 Engineering Design

3. Unit 3 Engineering Science

4. Unit 4 Managing a Professional Engineering Project

A further four Specialist modules are then studied to define on each course qualification

5. Unit 8 Mechanical Principles

6. Unit 9 Materials, Properties and Testing

7. Unit 19 Electrical and Electronic Principles

8. Unit 22 Electronic Circuits and Devices

Awarding Body

SETA HNC / HND qualifications are awarded by Pearson, the UK’s largest awarding body offering academic and vocational qualifications that are globally recognised.

English language requirements

Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2

PTE 51

IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing must be at 5.5

or equivalent.

International Recognition

The qualifications are widely recognised by industry and higher education as the principal vocational qualification at Levels 4 and 5 (undergraduate level).

Routes in to UK University

HNC qualifications are designated Higher Education qualifications in the UK. And as such are widely recognised by higher education and can be used to gain entry in to UK universities.

With distance learning you would achieve a nationally recognised qualification for engineers and also provides progression to higher level qualifications including HNC or HND.

This work-based qualification is aimed at learners who are working in a broad range of occupations in the Engineering and Manufacturing sector.

Learners complete a mix of more general engineering units alongside specialist units.

The achievement of this qualification may contribute to confirmation of the achievement of the underpinning skills and knowledge requirements of many new Occupational Standards.
